Loy Butte Area

Just South-West of Sedona AZ

So the owners took me to a beautiful area just outside of Sedona AZ. The area they took me to was called Loy Butte Rd. There is quite a bit of dispersed camping in this area and most of the sites are grouped in three to four camp site grouping. You used to have to have a RedRock pass to camp here but that is no longer required unless your in a location that provides services. This lawsuit was won in 2010 by by a man named Jim Smith. You do however need to heed the camping corridors and posted signs as some place do not allow camping on side of the road or another. The GPS coordinates where we stayed are as follows  34°53'23.7"N 111°54'22.4"W .
And here are the maps.

The roads in are well maintained dirt with some washboard and a few protruding rocks however even a fairly low clearance sports care can make the drive.
Pictures of the road to the camping location.
The above is a map of the camping corridors all the yellow and black roads can be camped along.

And now the actual roads into the camp sites. As you will see they vary in quality.

And now what everyone has been waiting for, the pictures of the scenery and why you would drive soooooo far along a dirt road to camp.

Last thing is again info the owners wanted me to pass on to my fans. There are many jeep tours out of Sedona that use these roads and they did occasionally drive into or through camping sites. The owners found that if you placed a simple barrier (they used two traffic cones bought at home depot a friend had) that the jeeps will not try to drive into your camp. Also this is Red Rock country so the soil is bright red and will stick to and stain anything it gets onto, and if it rains the ground can get soft fast so be advised of getting stuck after rains. This trip was done the first week of may and the temps were mild in the 60's during the day and cool in the 40's at night.

Remember Keep on boon docking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Introducing The TowBerry

So my old friend who used to take me all over to see the coolest areas has move on to better boon-docking in the sky.

Meet the TowBerry, my new friend who will take me on my adventures. If you happen to see us on the road feel free to stop in and say hi!

Camping Near Lynx Lake

Weekend trip to Lynx Lake Area

Hi, This trip my owners decided that they want to get to some cooler temperatures for the weekend. So they decided to go up to Lynx Lake just south east of Prescott AZ. Well the temps were cooler, I would say down right chilly. the GPS location for this site is. 34°29'47.1"N 112°22'25.4"W. Here are some satellite shots and a map.

We also found a cool map at the Lynx Lake General Store

This map show all the camping locations close to the lake and dispersed camping is just another name for boon-docking as far as I'm concerned.

Conditions Of The Road Into The Camp Area

To get to this location you will cross a cattle guard on Walker Rd, and take the first left. Warning go slow, I repeat go slow! The road is not really bad in any one spot, it's just kind of a little bad everywhere, and that adds up to one rough ride. I saw small sedans driving this road so it must feel a lot worse than it really is.

This is the first bit of road and honestly the worst part.

This is the sign at the turn off from Walker Rd.

Next Up All The Fun Pictures Of The Area

This location is so pretty with  plenty of room at each designated camp site for multiple people. Each camp site is separated by plenty of trees and foliage. So if you park in the right spot, you can have privacy even within the same camp site.

Each camp site is at least this big!

Cant camp by a lake without a lake picture!

Finally the owners wanted me to pass along some info they feel is important. This trip was done mid April, and the highs were in the upper 50's and the lows were between 31 and 29 degrees. I was very cool and bordering on too cold to be comfortable. Despite the cool weather, all camping sites were full by 9am Saturday morning. The paid camp sites by the lake were full Friday evening by 8pm. If you wish to get a spot come out early. There is another set of dispersed camping areas a little further south on Walker Rd., but they were full by the time we went to look at them around 11am Saturday. Fire wood can be found, but it will take work as most of the collectable wood near the camp sites has already been picked up and used. Plan to spend 2 to 3 hours collecting wood or bring your own.

Thank you for visiting and remember Keep on Boon-Docking !!!

Just north of Star Valley

Weekend Trip to the Pine trees

This trip the owners took me up to an area just below the Mogollon Rim. It was so nice and cool, and the trees were quite pretty. Lots of green plants and cool rocks to see. The GPS location for this site is: 34°17'23.4"N 111°07'00.0"W . Here are some satellite shots and a map.

As of mid-march, the paved road that you can use to get to this location, which runs by the Ponderosa camp ground, is closed. I don't know if or when it will be open. But you can take NF-405A all the way to this site and the road is in excellent condition. Once you get to the site turn off, there are some dips and divots as well as uneven roads to deal with, but it is not too bad. Also the foliage is quite close to the road so you might get some scratches if you'r not careful.

The main road in.

The road and turn-off for the camp sit.

And some Pics of me in my spot!

And finally some of the beautiful scenery.

Finally the owners wanted me to pass along some info they feel is important. The Temperatures are quite a bit cooler than the Phoenix area, they were highs of mid 70's and lows of lower 40's and upper 30's in March. No need to bring fire wood, as there is quite a but of dead fall wood from a previous forest fire and Forest service rehabilitation cutting. There are a lot of bushes blooming in march and they bring out lots of bees of all types. From little ones to huge bumble bees. Please be aware and bring precautions or medications if allergic to bees. My owners never got stung but it could happen.

Thank you for visiting and remember Keep on Boon-Docking !!!
