Just north of Star Valley

Weekend Trip to the Pine trees

This trip the owners took me up to an area just below the Mogollon Rim. It was so nice and cool, and the trees were quite pretty. Lots of green plants and cool rocks to see. The GPS location for this site is: 34°17'23.4"N 111°07'00.0"W . Here are some satellite shots and a map.

As of mid-march, the paved road that you can use to get to this location, which runs by the Ponderosa camp ground, is closed. I don't know if or when it will be open. But you can take NF-405A all the way to this site and the road is in excellent condition. Once you get to the site turn off, there are some dips and divots as well as uneven roads to deal with, but it is not too bad. Also the foliage is quite close to the road so you might get some scratches if you'r not careful.

The main road in.

The road and turn-off for the camp sit.

And some Pics of me in my spot!

And finally some of the beautiful scenery.

Finally the owners wanted me to pass along some info they feel is important. The Temperatures are quite a bit cooler than the Phoenix area, they were highs of mid 70's and lows of lower 40's and upper 30's in March. No need to bring fire wood, as there is quite a but of dead fall wood from a previous forest fire and Forest service rehabilitation cutting. There are a lot of bushes blooming in march and they bring out lots of bees of all types. From little ones to huge bumble bees. Please be aware and bring precautions or medications if allergic to bees. My owners never got stung but it could happen.

Thank you for visiting and remember Keep on Boon-Docking !!!

Short trip out of Phoenix

Short drive out of phoenix

Sweet spot along the sycamore creek

So the owners decided on a Saturday night to get out of town for the evening. They hooked me up to their TV and headed out along the beeline highway. After traveling for about 45 min, they found what looked like a nice area.

The GPS location is as follows: 33°47'53.0"N 111°29'16.4"W

The road into this site has a drop-off that looks scary, but it is much easier than it looks. The rest of the road in has some ruts and bumps but as long as you use the whole road, any Tow vehicle and trailer should be good to go.

Here are pictures of the road in, to give you an idea of the conditions.

A few ruts:

Now the Important stuff. The pretty views you can find at this location.

And now, pictures of me hanging out at base camp.

Lastly the owners wanted me to pass on some information they feel is important. First the temperatures are at most 5 to 10 degrees cooler than Phoenix. There is some road noise, as you are within a few hundred yards of the beeline. And most importantly, this location is very popular with hikers so there are random people pulling in and walking around all day long. So lock up or leave a human with your berry for safety.

Thank you for visiting and see you on the road!
