Loy Butte Area

Just South-West of Sedona AZ

So the owners took me to a beautiful area just outside of Sedona AZ. The area they took me to was called Loy Butte Rd. There is quite a bit of dispersed camping in this area and most of the sites are grouped in three to four camp site grouping. You used to have to have a RedRock pass to camp here but that is no longer required unless your in a location that provides services. This lawsuit was won in 2010 by by a man named Jim Smith. You do however need to heed the camping corridors and posted signs as some place do not allow camping on side of the road or another. The GPS coordinates where we stayed are as follows  34°53'23.7"N 111°54'22.4"W .
And here are the maps.

The roads in are well maintained dirt with some washboard and a few protruding rocks however even a fairly low clearance sports care can make the drive.
Pictures of the road to the camping location.
The above is a map of the camping corridors all the yellow and black roads can be camped along.

And now the actual roads into the camp sites. As you will see they vary in quality.

And now what everyone has been waiting for, the pictures of the scenery and why you would drive soooooo far along a dirt road to camp.

Last thing is again info the owners wanted me to pass on to my fans. There are many jeep tours out of Sedona that use these roads and they did occasionally drive into or through camping sites. The owners found that if you placed a simple barrier (they used two traffic cones bought at home depot a friend had) that the jeeps will not try to drive into your camp. Also this is Red Rock country so the soil is bright red and will stick to and stain anything it gets onto, and if it rains the ground can get soft fast so be advised of getting stuck after rains. This trip was done the first week of may and the temps were mild in the 60's during the day and cool in the 40's at night.

Remember Keep on boon docking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
